Syringes and Acid Reflux

Thanks to M2's amazing pediatrician I got to throw these away today.

M2 has really bad acid reflux and has been taking Prevacid. His ENT NP prescribed it but she prescribed it as a compound suspension. The only pharmacy in town to make compound suspensions is the pharmacy at Children's Hospital.

Every month it's a pain in the a$$ to get the RX. I have to call 3 days in advance so they can mix it. Then drive downtown (completely out of my way), then pay $2 to park, then wait in the longest line ever, just to get the RX.

Every month the stupid pharmacy tech tells me my insurance has declined the RX, and every month I have to explain in great detail that 'No, the insurance did not decline the RX, it's already been paid.' You see when I call 3 days in advance to reorder the RX, the pharmacy runs the insurance claim right then. My insurance (which by the way is amazing) pays the claim by direct deposit within 12 hours. So when I go to pick the RX up 3 days after I called in the reorder the stupid pharmacy tech reruns the claim, and it's denied from the insurance b/c they had just paid it 3 days earlier. Make sense?

Well last month when I called the refill in, I called on a Thursday evening, and said I needed it on Sunday, figuring we could just pick it up after church. The stupid pharmacy tech said they don't mix compound suspensions on Sunday so I would have to get it on Monday. I asked if I could just pick it up on Saturday, she said no, I didn't call far enough in advance to get it on Saturday. She said I could pick it up on Monday after 10am. Which means after work to us. I sent Hubby after work to get the RX, traffic into and out of the downtown area is crazy, plus after standing in line and explaining the situation to the stupid pharmacy tech it was 7:45 when he got home with the RX, and M2 was already asleep. He didn't have his medicine on Sunday or Monday, and then puked on Tuesday, from the reflux.

So after explaining all this drama to The M's Pediatrician she prescribed a NEW kind of Prevacid that is a pill that dissolves in water. Meaning no more syringes and no more trips to the stupid Children's Hospital Pharmacy!!

Getting this month's prescription should be easy, I can get it at the CVS down the street!!

Have I mentioned how much I love our Pediatrician?

Gosh, I wish I had know about this. I used to be a GI nurse and I know all about PPI meds such as Prevacid. You're probably getting the solutab which dissolves on the tongue or in a little bit of water. Life should definitely be simpler now.

I know this hassel well. Both baby boys were on Prevaicd for 9 months. I to did a little happy dance when we were able to stop but on the same note I must say what a magic drug prevaicd is. My one son Quinn went from a sad crying baby to a happy smiley one in about a week thanks to this med. :)
